"There is the living and then there is the writing. There is the second tasting, the delayed reaction."  -- Anais Nin

In remembering the people and events in our lives we have the opportunity to see them from the distance of time and experience. It's amazing the wisdom and compassion that comes from those second looks. When the images of the past are transformed into story, we not only discover our humanness but the universality of our experiences. In sharing those stories, we connect with one another and bring the past to the present.

My passion is trying to encourage as many as I can to write the stories of their lives, so when I was asked to be a part of the Community Short Courses this fall, I jumped at the chance. The class will be three 90-minute sessions, 6:30-8:00 p.m., on consecutive Mondays: October 24, October 30 and November 7. If participants are inspired and wish to continue, the sessions can resume second semester.

During the class, you will learn how to identify writable moments by using the senses to bring past images into focus and to remember vivid details. We will share the tools needed to transform memories into stories and explore ways to publish them for others to enjoy and appreciate.

We spend hours and hours searching for the "perfect" gifts to "buy" for our loved ones; yet, the gift that would mean the most to them is the stories we carry in our hearts and memories. We are all storytellers; we all have stories to tell. I hope you will consider telling yours in a fun, non-threatening setting.
