MHS Class of 1965
McCook Public Library Project.
Here is the audio/video equipment I purchased for the project. With the
equipment in
the case the High School Journalism Dept. and library patrons will be able
to record audio and video productions then post them to the Internet or
just burn them to a DVD.
I would like to thank the following 31 classmates for their
generous donations and making this class project a success: Warren Jones, Dan Crow, Linda
Leibrandt Taylor, Nancy DeVaughn Schwery, Mary Tincher Kalb, Larry Cain,
Steve Batty, Chris James, Phil Pate, Mary Jo Stephens Weigand, Roger Jones,
Susie Hutt Trupp, Mike Gilbert, Pam Gull Schilz, Colleen Grant, Ashley
Stevens, Roger Leitner, Judy White Anderson, Connie Rutt Jones, Jack
Tuttle, Linda Ambrose Harr, Jay & Lynn Reed Nylander, Jane Flaherty
Peterson, Gray Grim, Janet Rutt Hepp, Linda Krieger Shaw, Bob Best, Mary
Ann Budig Myers, Ernie Weyeneth and Mike Walker in memory of Jennie Walker.
The Information you received by email or post card from me
was a request for your help in funding a project for the McCook Public
Library as a gift from the class of 1965.
Each spring and fall I read the Bison Alumni Newsletter
and see what other classes have done for the community of McCook and/or
High School. Well, I would like to read an article in this fall's copy of
the newsletter telling how the Class of 65 donated
pod-casting equipment to the library to be used by its patrons and the
High School
journalism class.
The same audio/visual equipment can be used to make
DVDs from digital video recordings of our parents. A wonderful way to
preserve the past for future generations. I can see the library having a
web site like this one at the
Denver Public Library.
Following is a list of the equipment:
DV Camcorder with extra battery, tape, UV filter for protection & will
possibly need a battery charger,
Digital Still Camera
Digital voice recorder with mic
Tripod
Sturdy metal case for camera equipment.
Both the library and High School have the necessary computers and software
to produce the pod-cast and DVDs.
The fund raising is now complete and all the equipment has been purchased.
I would like to thank the following classmates for their
generous donations: Warren Jones, Dan Crow, Linda
Leibrandt Taylor, Nancy DeVaughn Schwery, Mary Tincher Kalb, Larry Cain,
Steve Batty, Chris James, Phil Pate, Mary Jo Stephens Weigand, Roger Jones,
Susie Hutt Trupp, Mike Gilbert, Pam Gull Schilz, Colleen Grant, Ashley
Stevens, Roger Leitner, Judy White Anderson, Connie Rutt Jones, Jack
Tuttle, Linda Ambrose Harr, Jay & Lynn Nylander, Jane Flaherty
Peterson, Gray Grim, Janet Rutt Hepp, Linda Krieger Shaw, Bob Best, Mary

Project to make Pod-casts Possible
McCook Daily Gazette - Tuesday, May 22, 2007
Lorri Sughroue
The McCook High School yearbook could be posted on the Internet in the
future, if enough funds are collected to purchase pod casting
equipment for the McCook Public Library.
Library Advisory board member Steve Batty told the McCook City
Council Monday night at its regular meeting that he will be collecting
funds from his high school class of 1965 to purchase the equipment.
Batty said the proposed equipment could be used by the high school
journalism or year book classes to create audio/visual clips for Web
sites. One example he mentioned could be placing the high school
yearbook online. The equipment could also be used by businesses and
other members of the public for their Web sites.
Councilman Aaron Kircher applauded the idea as a novel way to
attract kids to the library and to expand services.
"This is the next stage of technology," he said and is a good
example of how the schools and city can cooperate together.
If enough funds are collected -- about $1,000, according to the
March 14 Library Advisory meeting -- items to be purchased include a
digital camcorder, digital camera, MP3 voice recorder and player,
tripod, camera case..
Pulled by Councilman Kircher from the consent agenda, the item was
unanimously approved, along with all other consent items.
Mayor Dennis Berry also pulled an item before it was approved,
concerning the closing of streets around Norris Park Aug. 3-4 for the
Relay for Life.
Shane Smith, 2007 co-chair for the event, told the council that
McCook Relay will be a host site/test site for this year's event and
is hoping donations will break the $50,000 mark. Money collected is
used for cancer research.
The overnight event has proved extremely popular and has been
growing in size each year in McCook, with $46,000 raised last year.
"Norris Park is a wonderful atmosphere to hold this event," Smith
told the council. "McCook has much to be proud of."
As the only regular agenda item, the council unanimously approved
upon its second reading an amended ordinance that would include the
library director when advice and recommendations are made to the
council and city manager.
It would also change elections of the Library Advisory Board to
October from July each year.
