Slow Cooked Oatmeal

1 cup – milk
4 cups - water
1 cup - Steel cut oats
1+ tablespoon – brown sugar (optional)
3/4 teaspoons- salt
1/2 teaspoon - vanilla
2 tablespoons - butter to rub on inside wall of slow cooker
2 apples not pealed and diced
1 hand full - craisins
You can add other fruit to taste. I also put fresh chopped strawberries on it prior to reheating it in the microwave.

1) I usually start by rubbing the sides of the crock pot with the butter then adding the milk and water followed by the oats and turn the crock pot on.
2) Next I add the salt, brown sugar, vanilla, craisins and other fruit (fruit cocktail less the syrup) then stir it all together.
3) I dice up the two apples leaving the skin on and place them in the crock pot and stir once more.
4) Cook the oats for 8 hours then serve. If it is not morning then I let the pot cool and place the cooked oatmeal in a container. Each morning I dish up some oats, put a little milk on them then slice up two large strawberries on top, microwave for two minutes, stirring when 1/2 done and enjoying eating them.

It makes enough for me to have a bowl each morning for a week.
